The Discrete Element Method (DEM) is increasingly being used to simulate powders and particulates that are common in many industrial and natural processes. Since DEM computes at individual particle level, it has the potential to capture the underlying particle phenomena of a problem such as friction, cohesion or breakage, which in turn informs the bulk industrial process of interest. Using a few examples, this presentation will discuss model conceptualization of problems in developing effective solutions to address challenging industrial problems.
Presented as part of the virtual ATCx Discrete Element Method in November 2020.
